The Ten of Pentacles
Today’s card is the wonderfully positive Ten of Pentacles, traditionally known as the ‘wealth card’, but there are many ways to determine one’s prosperity and abundance. For what earthly good is a house with six bedrooms, luxury cars on the driveway or a yacht in the Bahamas, if we don’t have good health and peace of mind. As the saying goes, “Health is wealth.” This is an important prompt to approach life with a mindful perspective and gratitude. For while money is obviously essential, there are other aspects to life that are more important.
I recall sitting with a friend while she was receiving chemotherapy when she happened to recognise someone entering the ward. “Who is that?” she asked,“ he looks awfully familiar.” I spied my chance to look, and there in the middle of the ward with everyone else, was a famous reality TV star. For despite all his money, fame and status in the world, this had very little use for this lovely soul, now that he was battling, along with everyone else, one of the most challenging illnesses.
While this card is typically read as a positive card, and it is, its status should never be read in isolation, without impact or consequence. For when we put in the hours to gain success, we’re in great danger of exhaustion and burnout, potentially putting our health at risk. While today’s card is largely focused upon material gain and accomplishment. From a numerological perspective, being a double-digit number, an octave higher than the powerful number one, the last card of the suit. We’re reminded that a new, more potent energy is unfolding, the temptation to work even harder, to push ourselves beyond our limits, will increasingly become tempting. Particularly when we witness the fruits of our labour unfolding, but today we receive a timely reminder to recommit to more important issues. For health is our wealth, and wealth is our health!
